When Paul addresses head coverings in Corinth, the meaning is submission in the worship service. When Jesus washed the disciples’ feet it was an example of being a servant and being humble about doing it. In the time of Jesus, it was common for them to greet each other with a kiss, but we now usually do it with a handshake or a hug. The principle behind it is fellowship, not the particular practice. We need to be able to discern principle verses practice. Moral truth is not optional. When we study the commands that are given in the Bible, what we should be asking is the reason for the command that God gave us. The character of the heart is what is important when considering our outward adornment. We might dress modestly but still act arrogantly, or vice versa. Are our lives communicating what God’s truth (or meaning) is to others. We must discover the truth in the examples that are included in the Bible.
